Riverland Life FM Wins Bilby

SA Community Broadcasters Association (SACBA) have been running the awards for more than 30 years, with the Bilby introduced in 1996. The Awards recognise excellence in community radio and are open to the 33 community radio stations in South Australia who belong to SACBA. The awards are usually presented at the annual state conference and Bilby awards dinner but in 2020 the conference had to be cancelled due to COVID 19, so the awards presentation was held online.

There are 12 categories that cover a range of topics including Outside Broadcasts and Coverage of Sport. 2020 was a year that Riverland Life FM had to adapt to different community engagement and also the first year of not broadcasting the football for RFL after bringing it to listeners for over 10 years on air.  Secretary of the Board, Louise Gutsche said “We decided to celebrate by entering in the Bilby Awards for 2020.  Riverland Life FM was the runner up of the Excellence of Coverage of Sport for the Riverland Football League Grand Final in 2019 after a full season of bringing local football to both listeners at the ovals and others who tuned in at home.

Riverland Life FM was the Winner of the Best Outside Broadcast for Riverland Relay for Life 2019 with our involvement in putting in a team and broadcasting the event over the 24-hour period, where we could interview participants, Cancer Council employees and relaying the Ceremony on air.

Community Engagement is only able to happen with our many volunteers that give their time to the Station and we do this as a team.  The awards not only celebrate our achievements in Community Broadcasting on Radio but thank the many people who keep Riverland Life FM on air.
